Kampar, July 22 - Dare to Dream 2017 kicks off its ‘Dare to dream, dare to be you’ musical drama last Saturday at Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik hall at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Students from Young Entrepreneurs Society (Y.E.S) and The Drama and Public Speaking Society took a year to prepare the event with an incredible line up of performances for the audiences to enjoy. The show-stopping performances include the musical drama, Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra, dance performance by Silly Mistakes, band performance by Elise, special appearance by Serene Lim, Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2016 champion, local artist Will Ng and Bell Yu Tian and Taiwan artist Rachel Liang.
The event started with the welcoming speech by Mr Kim from Sein Travel who is also the main sponsor of the event and chairman Wong Pak Yuen, a Year 4 Business Information student then followed by the opening ceremony.

The night started with a breathtaking performance by Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra (KVWO). They performed a total of 3 songs, Adele and Coldplay Medley, The Avengers and Mayday Medley.

Followed after was the 'Dare to dream, dare to be you' musical drama which were divided into a 3 act structure. The drama talked about a boy named Jeremy who have the dreams of becoming a singer but was stopped by his mother and brother.

After the end of the first act, the emcees interviewed Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant, Serene Lim. She talked about her dreams and gave words of encouragement.

The second act resumed with Jeremy finally achieving his dreams of becoming a singer. As quoted by the drama, "Dreams belong to ourselves, as long as you dare to pursue, no one can stop you."

Next was the band performance by Elise. Elise performed a total of 4 songs and ended their performance with Linkin Park's 'What I've Done' as a tribute to the late Chester Bennington who passed away recently. Followed after was the dance performance by Silly Mistakes. FY, member of Silly Mistakes and chairman of UTAR Dance club took the opportunity to promote Feel The Beat 3, a dance competition which will take place in UTAR's Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik hall on 28 October 2017.


Then came the lineup of performances by local artists Will Ng, a Malaysian singer and songwriter and Bell Yu Tian, a Mandopop artist who made Malaysia proud by making it to the top 3 in the Asian Super Nova at Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival (HKAMF) and walked away with Best Vocal performance award.


Famous Taiwanese artist Rachel Liang then graced us with her beautiful voice and even walked down the stage to greet students and took a group shot with the audiences.


Lastly, the event ended with the third act and lucky draw session. One of the cast of the drama, Year 3 Commerce Accounting student Phuah You Chen said "This character is very different from the previous characters I've acted before and it was a new experience for me."

The main lucky draw prizes include an OPPO R7 and 5 days 4 nights trip to Korea, fully sponsored by Sein Travel.

When asked the reason behind the generous sponsor, Mr Kim said "I heard that this event is about achieving your dreams and I have my own dreams too so because we had this in common, I decided I wanted to a part of it too."

Wong Pak Yuen, chairman of Dare to Dream event quoted "My hard work paid off and I am very thankful to my committees and those who came for the event." When asked about his dreams, he said "My dream is to organize an event in Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, the biggest hall in UTAR."
Surely, he is the living proof of "Dare to dream, dare to be you".
