Hair for Hope: TARC Received More Than 400 Hair Donations

Hair donated are used to make wig which will be distributed to patients who lost their hair after their therapy.

Kampar, August 3 - Tunku Abdul Rahman University College received a good response from the students where the Hair For Hope charity event tends to receive more than 400 hair donations in July.

“Students show their support by action as we tend to receive around 50 hair donations from each courses; this is out of our expectation as we only expected to get around 200 hair donations during the event, said Chong Jca Hui (20), DEV group leader for the event.

“Our event committees start to collect hair donation in July as they start to collect hair donation from their hometown and bring it over to Kampar; besides we also collect hair donation from the entire salon located at old town and new town Kampar,” said Chong.

Hair donation can only be done with minimun 15cm, without bleached and the hair should be buddle in ponytail.

Hair collected will be used to create wigs for patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy and other sickness. The completed wig will be donated to wig bank and it will be donated to the individual who needed. People who undergo hair loss suffer blows to their self-esteem and self-image. Patients who lost their hair can build up their confident again with the hair donation from the public.

There are some requirements for hair donation. Hair donation can only be done with minimum 15cm; hair can be coloured however it cannot be bleached and hair should be tie bundled in a ponytail.

"It is a very meaningful event where it could help patient to build up their confident," said Chong Jca Hui (20)

“We invited some hairdresser to come over to provide hair cutting services for students if they wish to donate their hair and there are many students and staff willing to do the hair donation on the spot,” Chong said.

“It’s definitely a hard time for those patient where they lost what they have after the therapy; it would be very meaningful to the patient as we can help them to build up their confident again through hair donation,” said Whit Ney, staff of TARC who donated her hair on the spot.
